I certainly does not have much influence on the ACS or major cancer institutions. When my wife was dying of cancer, two of the three cancer clinics that she attended offered free sugared drinks to their customers. The other offered hot cocoa which had sugar, but they felt the antioxidants were worth the tradeoff.

While the ACS blasts alternative therapies in its literature, it does not mention reduction of Sugar or the link between Sugar and cancer.
