I wonder if your apartment has a story all it's own.

I once lived in a rooming house. When I first saw this large house, something looked very peculiar to me about it. I was simplifying my life in a major way...and I needed an inexpensive place to live, and so I rented a room anyway. My room was 10'x12'...and initially...I was happy as a clam to be there. There lived an assortment of interesting characters there...some were passing-by students from a nearby university, some were also living quietly and simply, some had been long-term residents...misplaced by family and good fortune, and one was just using the space as a writer's retreat. The house could have easily been a book just with that.

Not long after I moved in...and cleaned my space immaculately...painting...sanding and staining the floor... clearing the energy...and setting up my meditation altar...some very strange things began occurring in this house. And especially in my room.

Things began to fall down. I had a few canvases stacked by my easel...and one night...I was startled awake... from the sound of them slapping to the floor. They did not slide down...in the way that they should have...given the angle they were leaning. Nope. They flipped over the other way...and slammed into the floor.

And mind you, I am generally a very sound sleeper.

These occurrences began happening with greater frequency. Pictures fell off the wall. My briefcase also woke me up one night...again, slamming to the floor from an upright position. I began having trouble with the locks on my doors...the main door and the bathroom door. I asked my teacher, who provides feng shui for his students...to please pay me a visit and see what could be done about this. From the moment he entered the building, I could tell that he was rattled...although being the great teacher that he is, he simply gave me some guidance regarding a few things I could do to try and rectify the situation. I did as he instructed. I was already doing intensive meditation practice...and he was very complimentary of my altar, and encouraged me to spend much time in front of it.

And I was also having problems with electronics. My Cell Phone was my only phone at the time. Initially, I was able to make and receive some calls...though the signal was weak. In a short while, I was unable to make or receive calls. This would not be such a strange thing...except this house was located near a major university just north of Chicago...where coverage should have been no problem. Eventually, I was in a black hole.

One day, I was in the backyard of the house...practicing taiji...and I really looked at the back of the house at I finished the form. Just as the front of the house had looked peculiar...so, too did the back of the house. And then is hit me... The back of the house was actually the front of the house! The house was not sitting properly on the lot.

A little more time went by...winter was coming and temperatures were dropping. And my room was freezing cold! My heater was not working. I called the landlord and she sent her maintenance main to the building. He bled the radiator and told me it should be fine.

I should also mention that...I began to 'feel' a presence in my room. Initially I was able to send it away with my mind...but it's presence...or presences...became more powerful. The one time that I felt perfectly safe and protected...was during my meditation...while sitting in front of my altar. I could feel a protective energy enveloping me and protecting me...like an energy shield...from any harm.

Very shortly after my radiator was bled, it stopped working again. Once again, the maintenance man came to fix it. We began talking...and I told him about seeing the house from the backyard...and how it looked so odd. He informed me that this house had been moved from a previous location and was placed on it's new lot backwards. And he also informed me that this house was once a funeral parlor.

Bingo!!!

Sure enough...as I went through the house again, I could see that the main floor was laid out so that there was a central hallway and viewing rooms on either side of it. I was in the room at the very top of the house. Who knows what that room was used for?! And I was able to research the local library records to confirm that this was, indeed, a former funeral parlor that had been relocated.

The last night I slept in my room, I was startled awake by the feeling of 'something' poking me on the bottom of my foot. I moved out after that...and have had none of these problems since. And when I told my teacher about my experiences and discoveries about the house, he just looked at me and smiled. He is a wonderful teacher.

And, yes...this is a true story.

Have you ever wondered why there are those places of business...that, by all logical means...should be able to do quite well...and yet don't? And have you ever watched another business...move into the same location and also bite the dust? I know of corners in Chicago...that should be gold mines! The foot traffic alone should almost insure their success. And yet...each time a business moves into one of these locations...it fails miserably. Even when the products or services are good. They just don't make it.

Places have a history...and some places have many, many stories to tell. Things may have occurred in these places that left an energetic footprint...that just might creak the floorboards!

It is possible that your apartment has a story all its own. I dunno. Anything is possible.

If you are not having any problems with your partner anywhere except in this apartment...I would be checking out the classifieds, if I were you.

And that's me.

lol
