The index numbers produced by tests such as the currently available ELISA IgG test do not quantize viral activity. One test, albeit somewhat expensive, that you might consider is to do daily PCR swabs over a period of time and see how many days out of that period HSV DNA is detected. Such testing is available through the Westover Heights clinic in Portland, Ore.
