We had people from New Orleans visit our church. They said that their in-laws family who lived near Lakeview area(not far from levee breach) heard a very loud noise (they described it as very loud cracking noise), and then water started pouring in shortly after. Water was rising very fast. The family had to swim out of the house, they survived.
