"By the way, "clinical psychologist" Bruce Levine is quoted above as saying "Instead of labeling Depression as weakness or illness, we might better decrease Depression by understanding it as a normal, albeit painful, human reaction. When we label a part of ourselves as either "weak" or "sick," we alienate ourselves from a part of who we are, and this can create even more pain." "

I agree in part with this. If it is seen as a normal reaction to a bad life, or the world we live in, then it isn't something we can just 'build a bridge and get over'. As long as the stimulus remains the 'normal reaction' will be there. So if I lose my children that's something I will never get over, similarly if I am effected intimately by things like wars and world poverty and 800,000 people a year dying from prescribed drugs and twice as many as that from mistakes and overdoses.. then I will not be 'better' until those things are significantly improved. And the frustration and helplessness to do anything about it all makes things all the worse, all the time.

Depression isn't always just emotional. But it isn't always just physical either. It can be either or both together. And whether a normal reaction or with a physical element added to it it can be equally debilitating.

Thanks for the extra information. It does make the whole thing seem more like just another experiment on the human guinea pig which makes better sense than the typical heal-all it claims.

Andrew.
