Snippet from
http://www.lemetropolecafe.com:
The Royal Canadian Mint is no longer taking orders for silver maple leafs. They are behind by some 500,000 pieces and it seems unlikely they will get caught up before year end. Last week I ordered 2,000 and it took me all morning and I had to deal with two vendors. Normally it is a five minute process on a single phone call. I found some I can have by mid December but 1,000 won't be delivered until mid January. One distributor is now offering US silver eagles at close to maple leaf prices but I suspect it won't be long before the US mint is also overwhelmed. I know of two individuals who are liquidating Comex positions and converting to privately held silver maple leafs. They have no problem with the high premiums in view of where they see longer term silver prices. Both have no confidence that their physical ( eligible ) silver will not be subject to some subterfuge at the hands of the Comex authorities.
I also want to reiterate the possibility of all physical gold and silver specie vanishing from vendors who retail such items. There are some very serious bottlenecks that can easily disrupt the supply chain.
If one tenth of one percent of those who have savings decided to convert a good sized portion of their savings into real money, you would see every retailer and distributor of physical gold sold out in North America within hours. The resulting rising prices would attract some sellers but they will be almost irrelevant as demand would expose naked shorts and failure to deliver would exacerbate an already convoluted situation. By the time order would be restored to the market, the new price will be staggering. We may be a lot closer to a such a gold and silver panic than most folks think.
