What sort of metal detox have you tried? If you went crazy, you weren't taking the right supps or taking too much. No it wont come out after a year on its own if its in the organs/brain.

Cutlers is the best for chelation, you can take it very slow and stay in control of the process as far as possible. I have also gone 'crazy' but if I take very low doses, I'm fine. I'm not saying its an easy process and it can be very slow but people are getting better who got worse doing other metal 'detoxes' and it has cured lots of autistic children. It doesnt mean taking lots of synthetic supps, for chelation you just need to take either DMSA or DMPS, and alpha lipoic acid which is the main chelator is a regular supp. Apart from that you need antioxidants like vit C and E and minerals esp magnesium, selenium, zinc. You will probably need some sort of adrenal and thyroid support.

Buy Cutlers book and visit these groups for more support as this forum isnt very active.
