Actually, that's not really the case. It is trendy now in the alternative health field to make alkalinity out to be a panacea, but that's pretty far from the truth. In another decade, the hype will be around acidity, with some bestselling books promoting that. In many ways, I am really disgusted with the alternative health field.

Most people with candida are slow metabolizers. While their cells are more acidic, their intercellular spaces are too alkaline. Their bodies do not generate enough acid end products of metabolism such as lactic acid. Calcium, an alkaline-forming element, also builds up adding to the alkalinity. Candida thrives in an alkaline environment and becomes able to invade tissues and cause serious illness."

An alkaline environment is similarly dangerous for the kidneys, leading to calcium phosphate and struvite stones, as well as infections.
