My wife has had the Mirena IUD inserted this summer. So far, she has experienced the following side effects at one time or another: Change in menstrual bleeding, headaches, depression, nervousness, MOOD SWINGS, breast pain, vaginal discharge, painful menstrual bleeding, decrease in sex drive, migraines, abdominal bloating and possible weight gain. Soon after insertion of the IUD I noticed a severe increase in moodiness and frightening mood swings during PMS. Now she seems to be stuck in perpetual PMS. Her mood swings are such that one moment she will smile at me and the next she will be screaming and fighting without provocation. At this point, I am at a loss since she almost seems bipolar and there is nothing I can do to keep her on an even keel. I have tried everything! I can no longer talk with her and am even afraid to suggest that it is the Mirena that's causing our problems. Although we have had our differences in the past, especially trying to juggle two kids and two careers, we have always been able to resolve our arguments and drew strength from one another. Since the Mirena, I feel like my wife has been replaced with a completely unreasonable beast who cannot control her emotions and is driven by rage. Sex is just something she is no longer interested in. She has even started fights during sex when I asked her to hold or kiss me. I am looking into marriage counseling but think that she should have the Mirena IUD removed first, especially after reading the posts on this site. Until we heard about this "Miracle IUD", I always advocated using condoms (for about 12 years now) for fear that there would be adverse side-effects to her health from hormone-based birth control such as the pill. Now that I am living this nightmare, I am begging all of you on this forum for some advice. I would love to hear what your husbands have been through as well. I love my wife and kids and I would do anything to end this nightmare for the four of us. Please advise. Thanks!
