Your right about the diet its extremely strict all I eat is meat some vegetables and nuts/olive oil. It gets easier after a few weeks on the diet.
For lip balms I use an all natural/organic one I picked up at the health food store,
occassionaly I use coconut oil/ olive oil but the oils need to be applied often. I have also used badger balm and the all natural chap stick in the beige tube which is available at drug stores. Aquaphor works the best but I am weaning myself off it because its toxic. Heres a link to a cosmetic database which lists toxicity of alot of products.
