Mo4,
the Amalgam replacement forum is probably the best place to start: //www.curezone.org/forums/f.asp?f=42 . There you can get advice on where you can find an appropriate dentist. Basically you need to find someone who follows the correct protocol - removing mercury is the time when exposure can be highest.

You should certainly never get mercury fillings removed by an ordinary dentist.

You want to make sure that they:
1. remove *all* the Amalgam in your mouth
2. use an oxygen mask during removal so you don't re-breathe in any mercury
3. some people suggest using a "rubber dam" too, which stops any particles being swallowed - but there is mixed opinion on this as some say that the rubber dam just causes particles to get trapped in the mouth.
4. remove them only using an appropriate schedule. There are various schools of thought on this, but basically you *don't* want to remove all your Amalgams at once. One schedule is to only work on one quadrant of the mouth at a time - e.g. upper left, upper right, bottom left, bottom right.

Also you need to understand that replacement materials have their problems too, although hopefully anything is better than mercury. Finally costs can vary quite considerably (depending on where you get the work done) so you may have to budget carefully.

Chelation (pronounced key-lay-shun) is the process of removing mercury from the body (*after* you have removed all Amalgam fillings) using various chemical/natural agents. Many people find that their various health problems resolve simply by having their Amalgams removed. Others however find that this makes little difference to their health, in which case chelation is appropriate.

Hope that helps,
JV.
