wow, they really get me too. but grapefruit is GREAT for me, and lemons are fine for me. but strawberries - ick! something happens right when they hit my mouth. as much as i want to want them!
i personally think that the answer given in the instructions about alkalinization is insufficient regarding these substances. it is one thing what pH something is when it goes INTO and THROUGH your digestive tract. it is another what "ash residue" it leaves in your body and cells when metabolized. something can be very acidic in your mouth and stomach, and then still be have an end result and a net effect of making your body be more alkaline.
for example: if you drink Coca-Cola, it is very acidic and will never alkalinize your body. but a grapefruit, also acidic, will. why?
the stomach pH is very acidic and the duodenum is NOT. it is alkaline. when the food goes into the duodenoum, the chyme (digested food) needs to be neutralized. the gallbladder's secretions help neutralize the food in the duodenum. if you aren't eating enough fruits and veggies, your body won't have what it needs to neutralize that food and the body will pull calcium from the bones in order to form the proper 'chemical solutions' to do so. your body will go thru extreme attempts to neutralize the acidic effect on the whole body.
so, you can see that there are a lot of processes involved here and why 'perhaps' people with congested livers and stone clogged gallbladders, etc., would have interference with these 'rules' in this book. we're talking about very intricate systems and very diseased states of being in our culture.
if anyone would like to chime in, they might have more info on this.
