I have been in exactly the same position as Chris. I have been under the care of psychiatrists and psychologists for many years with the result that things got worse and worse. I finished up being a iatrogenic drug addict and when the psychiatrists told me they could not help me anymore I had to buy the drugs on the black market for many years thereafter. I was determined to get at the bottom of my problems by studying psychology and Clinical Nutrition.
Thus I have truly lost my faith in the conventional mental health industry to the point where I personally consider the conventional psychiatric profession to be a very dangerous profession. I have joined many other scientists who are forging a new way in the treatment of "mental" illness. In fact there is no such thing as "mental illness", which psychologuistically lead people to think that it is "mental" (an adjective of the mind). It is not a sickness of the mind, but of the body.
87379 may possibly benefit from reading some of the more critical articles on the practice of conventional psychiatry and psychology.

which shows that about 60% of patients receiving conventional treatment for "mental illness" remain treatment resistant.

The irony of this debate is that 87379, hidden under the anonymous guise of a number, is using a classical ad hominem argument, attacking the author instead of debating the message. This often happens to people who lack the confidence, skills of critical thinking and education to arrive at their own conclusion. Such people have an over-driven need to look up to Father Xmases, the Pope or "qualified" doctors and other illuminati to find the TRUTH. They seem incapable of thinking for themselves. I really wonder what 87379 is doing at this discussion board. If qualifications and credentials are so important, can he tell us what qualifications he got to make such profound statements?
If 87379 want to have a serious and constructive discussion on the topic at hand, can he give us his opinion, what his approach is to the treatment of mood disorders or does he run to doctors?
