Chelation means to "claw" it's the action of pulling out (particularly metals). It is a form of detox, but it's a bit different in that it directly goes after the metals and holds onto them, hopefully dragging them out. Detox is more of a cleansing and in the process the body ridding itself of toxicity. You can also take stuff to mobilise metals too, not quite as stable and strong as chelating agents, and seek more to stir up the mercury, rather than grip onto it tightly enough to really chelate them.
