I know someone who had gout. They woke up in the middle of the night with severe pain. It's funny how the pain came on in the middle of the night and no other time. What this will do over time is exhaust the one suffering because adrenaline requires five straight hours of uninterrupted sleep in order for it to be replenished. Disturbed sleep cycles may affect hormone production too. The body is busy at night with operations reserved for when it is fully at rest.

Gout may be a way the body 'stores' toxins much like the way a squirrel buries acorns to be retrieved at a later time. So it is a case of too much acid whether from meat or otherwise. Odds are that the morning urine pH is below 6.4. Raising the pH means increasing minerals as this will neutralize the acid. If meat is being consumed that may continue to aggravate and remedies like detox baths or cherries may serve to manage the condition but might not fully resolve it.

The biggest caution with cherries is that they are one of the most heavily sprayed fruits. Pesticides. So to eliminate one poison (the gout acids) one might be ingesting a poison of a different kind. The reason why cherries are so laxative is because they contain cyanide! This is the cherry tree warning any birds eating too much of its precious fruit that there will be payback. This is natures way of disallowing pigging out and greed.

Many foods in the wild have toxic side effects when consumed through over indulgence. Alkaloids cause tummy upset for the simple reason that the plant needs to survive. It is one reason why animals forage and move from one territory to another. The poisons prevent excess consumption and keep the animal population from becoming complacent and gorging on one plant.

My friend with gout has used castor oil packs on the feet with success. Mostly rubbing the offending foot with castor oil before bed and then wrapping the foot in a plastic bag. The other helpful measure was to use Kinotakara foot patches although some may question its effects. Many toxins were released. They also started a regime of alkalizing foods and drinks and reduced the consumption of acid forming meals. Exercise was increased too. The gout attacks have completely abated.
