Some years ago I had Guillain-Barre Syndrome, which causes paralysis similar to polio (but usually with a good chance of recovery). I made a very good recovery, but continually experience problems with constipation and incomplete bowel movement. I've used large volume enemas, one to two quarts of tap water, anywhere from once per week, to every other day, for years. If I'm not having problems, I try to take one enema per week just to make sure nothing is getting backed up (once you have an incident of impaction, you don't want another one). Even after years, I don't see any problems with using enemas. When I'm only doing them once per week, I have normal bowel movements in between. I think the enemas are much more effective and benign than laxatives the doctors have recommended. It's just my personal opinion, but if you want to do say, one enema per week, I don't think you'd have a problem at all. Give it a try and see how you feel.
