“My Camylobacter drama went from October to after New Year's about 3 or 4 years ago. My gastroenterologist had the first samples sent in November. I did samples in November and December. Then waited. In addition to the issues with GS needing multiple samples, my gastro's office OPTED to call in my antibiotics AFTER the holiday when they returned and saw my results...I'm a little bitter about lab testing and so forth.”
Again, sorry and I can certainly understand your feelings on the issue. Waiting throughout October-January to find a possible answer from GS is more than appalling -- requiring 12-15 samples still surprises me. Thank you sharing your experience.
Another note: MDs and NDs receive a kick-back for each lab referral. (I had an article - not posted- it showed the amount that MDs received annually for lab referrals from a survey done but I can’t find it. IF I remember correctly the figure was roughly an extra $9-12,000 annual income.) When insurance pays Great Smokies/Genova Diagnostics, the next question is to ask how much was your doctor paid for those 12-15 lab tests? Your doctor gets paid whether or not your results are returned negative/positive for something.
“Yes, I am a hesitant to trust GS again - though at least I think my insurance would pay the charges.”
Quickly, two questions come up. Would the time and frustration be worth it to approach them again? If it took them that long to find something known what are the chances of them finding something that isn’t in their database of “things to find” requiring more than 12-15 samples – then, what?
“Just looking quickly, and honestly NOT having made any thorough investigation, I'm not clear on RHRPlus' ability to take insurance. I'm on Disability.”
Take your time. To answer your question, no, we don’t take insurance. Insurance is for medical establishments; we are an independent consultation service and don’t have anything to do with medical services. We don’t diagnose anything, just report on the findings.
If you chose to go with an independent lab service, your doctor can’t prevent it because we deal directly with you – empowering you with information for better choices. This also means that you can go to as many practitioners that you feel is necessary because you have the information with you, instead of you trying to negotiate records and notes each time you see a practitioner.
“So, for me, I have to be sure that when I select a lab to pay up front, in addition to managing the symptoms, I have to be sure I can afford it. On the other hand, when I see the weeping sores and so on, I think, how can I not?”
I’m certainly not here to “convince” you or anyone that we’re the ones – my focus is to provide information – what you do with the information is up to you. Whether or not you use RHR Plus or go through the channels again with GS/GD, or another lab is a decision you’ll have to make on your own.
If you look at your own question again, you may have something to ponder upon. It comes down to what is the value/benefit to you and can a price really be put on your health?
