"The production of free radicals during mitochondrial respiration is part of a vital cellular process where electromagnetic energy (electron transport) is transformed into chemical energy through the production of a high-phosphate donor, i.e., ATP. It is the electron transport along a chain of carriers accompanied by a net translocation of H+ ions (protons) from the inside to the outside of the inner mitochondrial membrane that provides the driving force for the synthesis of ATP by ATP synthase. The ultimate electron acceptor along the chain is oxygen..."
H+ ion translocation?
How does this happen?
An acid is a hydrogen donor H+... a base is a hydrogen acceptor... O-
We could expand and get into donor and acceptor compounds, minerals necessary, etc. but for simplicity's sake, lets leave it at that...
Here we have - electromagnetic energy, acid/alkaline balancing, the importance of oxygen... all absolutely essential for the very existence of life; all found in the same paragraph :-O, applied to the same life essential process, not to mention our essential and symbiotic relationship with mitochondria. Imagine that.
