Dear GBU, first thanks for clarifying the question. Now that I see all that is behind your query, I actually thrill to the possibility of interesting discussion!! Forgive me for throwing in the "bait" business, but you would be surprised how often on his particular forum someone has come in posting such a vague question only to spark a planned and unfruitful altercation.
Anyway, on to the meat of the question. I am still a little confused because you mention two, not one reason for your question. One is the statements made by GWB, and the other about persons who talk with God without any specific religious affiliation or inclination. So I'll try to give my take on both premises, then you can tell me what you think. How's that?
On the first, I am fine with GWB or anyone else accepting the religious beliefs of others. In fact I wouldn't want it any other way. I am proud of the freedoms that are guaranteed anyone in this nation and fear the posibility of losing them. I also gree that GWB is a politician and not a theologian, as someone said in the article you posted. What I can not agree to at all at his time is that GWB is any kind of Christian himself, and the fact that there are people who call him one is to me the product of political brainwashing and pandering. I believe he attests to this himself when he defines a Christian as "someone who would never kill innocent people". That to me right there highlights his own lack of qualifications to be called a Christian, by his very own definition. As you well know I'm sure, no one can serve two masters, certanly not Jesus Christ and Skull & Bones, the Illuminati or whatever. So when he or anyone else like him who are unbelivers say that all are going to the same God, I simply count whatever they are saying as irrelevant from a Christian point of view, simply by virtue of the fact that they are not Christians, so I'm okay with it. If they say Elvis was seen having lunch in downtown Memphis with Marylin Monroe, I'm okay with that too.
As far as a person who does not know anything about God from any religious perspective? There are many who have prayed in this way, the "if there is a God out there" way, and have actually found Him. I was one of those myself. I was a pretty staunch agnostic who ran into some pretty difficult situations and felt that only if there was a real, supernatural God to begin with would I find my way out. When I prayed that prayer I did so with all of my heart and being, but having had no previous religious instruction of any kind, if the so-called flying spaghetti monster had showed up on the scene, I would have believed it to be God. As it was, Jesus Christ answered the prayer instantly, much to my great surprise. No one "witnessed" to me, nor quoted Bible scripture or asked me to repeat after them a little formula prayer. It was all one-on-one with God, and I imagine that if this happened to me, it must also happen countless of times all over the world and all the time. There may be others for whom this doesn't happen quite the same, but I can only surmise that the difference might reside in some inner condition only known to God.
Well, this is my take on the question. Again. I'm sorry if I was skeptical of your motives. There is no need to apologize for ofending anyone. Good discussions should never be considered offensive except when they turn sour and insultng, and it's obvious now that was never your intention.
Is there an internet link to the radio station/programs? I'd like to listen :-)
