do you have a scriptual basis for this belief? i dont find it in scripture.
as for the thief, perhaps he was as jesus was, not really guilty of that which he had been condemned for. it seems to me if this one instance were such an object lesson for repentence, why was it not used subsequently in the epistles somewhere?
# Matthew 5:20
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
# Matthew 7:21
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
# Matthew 18:3
And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
# Matthew 19:24
And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
# Matthew 23:13
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
# Mark 9:47
And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
# Mark 10:23
And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
# Mark 10:24
And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
# Mark 10:25
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
# Luke 18:17
Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
# Luke 18:25
For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
# John 3:5
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
all of these things take time. all of these things require effort on the part of the person seeking. i know that with god all things are possible, so i cannot completely discount what you say. but i also know that HE is no respecter of persons. i realize that christian dogma likes to put emphasis on a person not being able to earn his salvation. that point of view, no matter how it is supported by certain verses in the bible, is not supported by the bible as a whole. many men were called righteous, and they were dealt with accordingly. they didnt earn favor with god, they found favor in his sight and he judged them accordingly, as he does everyone.
