All throughout history, church ORGANIZATIONS (the 'institutional' church, the real church is the PEOPLE of Christ) has been very 'textual' and legalistic teaching a "rigor" of devotion (Colossians 2:23) and have irresponsibly been misleading to the sincere (God knows their hearts and takes everything into account, Hebrews 6:10).
It has always been very popular for those who love The Heavenly Father to disregard The Father's good advice from scripture and only regard everything He says as a COMMAND (we are TOLD to love a COMMANDER/MASTER/OVERSEER instead of being infatuated with a "Lord") and cringe in fear that we might violate (sin against) a code of propriety that other people may wish to convict us of (for the sake of their EGO, they will first ACCUSE us of something so that we should FEEL SHAME, GUILT or humiliation/self-abasement) in order to convince us that we (the individual) deserve a PENALTY, and even that OTHER PEOPLE should also BE GIVEN a PENALTY (we should not judge SO THAT ANYONE BE GIVEN A PENALTY whether they actually DESERVE one or not, but discernment is always WISE).
Judging is often done as a busybody 'PREDATOR' for egotistical and condescending reasons so that the other person should suffer a penalty of shame, guilt, or humiliation UNJUSTLY (sometimes, very few, it will be just unless done by a court).
The institutional church CAN be a good place to organize a ministry with others, to fellowship and to share ways of growing CLOSER to the Lord, but not to compare your PERSONAL relationship/devotion ("PERSONAL" is YOURS ALONE). There is an overwhelming tendency to criticize others for the specific reason that they should be GIVEN a "PENALTY" (this is not love, love covers a multitude of "sins").

It is not SPECIFICALLY the act of "judging" that determines a person's "Christianity" (or lack of it), it is wishing that the other person be served a penalty, but since there is an overwhelming tendency to judge for the specific reason that they suffer a penalty (human nature), The Lord tells us not to do it at all (but when we do, we should judge rightly).
And because the institutional church "arms" us with the attitude of 'BEING EFFICIENT' (using scripture in a judgemental manner), we should take care not to share "in her sins".
