If I remember right...

The production of gastric acid is turned on or shut off by the autonomic nervous system and several different hormones. Any disturbance with one or more of these "controls" could cause problems.

It is/was my understanding that chloride and hydrogen atoms are released... separately by different cells and is combined at some point eventually reaching the stomach lumen.

Then there are enzymes and other factors involved, sodium and potassium chloride I think and perhaps those you mention (I do not remember and would have to look it up).

I suppose a weak link anywhere in this chain, including one or more deficiency factors, could cause problems...

Let us know what you find out and your course of action... you could be the resident expert on this at some point in the future. That would be a great contribution here I am sure.
