baking soda is in most of those recipes, too.  It is abrasive and can wear enamel and cause sensitivity for some people.  Baking soda can also act as a very mild abrasive cleaner perfect for removing stains from sinks, counter tops and even fine china.  Some people do ok with it, but I wouldn't chance it.  also, same with hydrogen peroxide, some cannot use it because it can cause sensitivity.
