I'm not aware of a garlic protocol. When I was younger and backpacking, I would eat a clove of garlic per day to hopefully keep the biting insects away. I also took iodine with me to clean the water, if I could not pack in enough. That was in the 70s. So, if you have a protocol, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
