Re: Hi
Lapis, the posts mention composting, so I thought I'd ask a question about that right here. The past couple of years, I've just been throwing everything into a block-brick planter in the back yard. I make sure it's wet, etc. It's worked great, except that I'd like to use that planter and I have a small yard. So every sq. ft. counts for gardening.
The city has a program where it recycles old (large) plastic garbage cans and turns them into composters. They sell them for $5. Haven't seen them but they say that they have holes on the sides and a place at the bottom to shovel compost from.
I hate using plastic, but pretty much every composter is plastic. I've heard that turning the composted mixture is not really good (like in the drum style). What do you recommend? Think I could do this and not really have too much in the way of plastic residue probs.??? Since it's large and vertical (upright) it would be a great fit for the yard, and def. the right price. But what use is it if it's bad for the particular purpose???
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks...
