O/T Buying the research to keep it from being published..
Here's an additional factor to the sick little scenario of "Science Without Conscience":
Let's say a scientist is hired to do a study on Fluoride by a Fluoride manufacturer, for use in advertising their Fluoride product.
However, the scientist discovers that Fluoride is an extremely toxic substance, and the results of the study show it.
The company employing the scientist "owns" the rights to that scientist's research, and the scientist cannot now speak out, nor publish the data, without legal repercussion ('Intellectual property', IIRC).
The company, however, may publish out-of-context bits of the study which appear to back up their claims for the product.
The scientist, who knows better, is "gagged" from speaking, and has no legal recourse that I know of, to correct the misreprestntation of the research.
