Old practice of adding iodine to baby oil for tanning?

I just read a post that brought up a memory for me. I believe that there was once a common practice (I'm 54 yrs. old) when I was young that people would add in Iodine to baby oil to get a nice tan. I can't recall if it was Iodine (did people have bottles of liquid iodine?) or if it was that mircucome that my mom would use to place on an open scatch or wound. Anyone remember this?
