Hal seems to have a faulty memory doesn’t he? He includes a few of the names man has given to God and I haven't heard anybody being condemned for doing that before. Did I miss something? Did the rules change recently?
Maybe the name for God IS more important than our belief now.
I don't understand how the verse of "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain" has anything to do with a name someone has for God. It's reverence that they’re talking about there & what matters most. A person who calls him God and drinks and parties at topless bars the whole week is better than a person who calls him Santa with the most reverence possible and lives a holy life?
If I remember correctly when Moses asked God what his name was God said I AM who I AM, & Tell them I AM has sent you. Why aren't people calling God by what HE said to call him? I wouldn’t mind what a child reverently called me. Why would God?
Hal seems to think it is Allah who wants to be called God, when it's a bishop asking Christians to show some reverence or tolerance or acceptance toward Muslims, even if they don’t show it towards us. Just like Jesus taught.
Hal also seems to think by changing the name of God, that some how changes God. Hal said “God cannot be "reinvented"”. How could anything we say or do, change God in the least bit?
He also says "The doctrine of Satan is that all religions are equally valid". I'd like to see the scripture in the Bible where satan says all religions are equally valid.
He reminds me of Pat Robertson saying Katrina was an act of a vengeful God on a sinful city, which I believe he later retracted. Man has confused acts of nature and God for thousands of years, and with people like Hal around, it will probably be a few thousand more before people learn the difference.
