People who suffer nausea or sore throats when exposed to fresh paint or glue are probably reacting to the formaldehyde many of them contain. Relief may be available from the humble tea bag. Scientists from the Tokyo Metropolitan Consumer Centre have found that scattering tea bags around the house or room can reduce levels of formaldehyde 60%-90%. They believe that the tannin in tea helps the leaves to absorb chemicals and have found that dry black or green tea works best.
