Size of Gallstones?

Just wondering what the best medical test is for gallstones.

I had an ultrasound about 2.5 months ago which was supposed to have detected gallstones, but all they can tell me is "it shows as a shadow on the gallbladder." They can't tell me anything about the size, how many etc.

Is a HIDA scan a better test? Any other suggestions?
