Re: I quit sugar cold turkey. Encouragement, please : )Battling my sugar addiction-hi, Encouragement has entered the room...

I read your message post:"I quit Sugar cold turkey. Encouragement, please." If I didn't know better, it sounded like my story. For the past couple of years, I have been "cold-Turkeying" my Sugar addiction- the rollercaster ride. I'll eat ultra-healthy, go thru all of the withdrawal, days will pass and then, a family gathering happens,so I blow it. Or, like you said: eat a "little sugar" and go on a binge. I'm 39 now and a lifetime of cane Sugar is taking it's toll on me:obesity, High blood pressure,pre-diabetes,etc. I now know the consequences of Sugar consumption. The good news, it's not too late to reclaim my health or yours. My encouragement to you is the same as what I was asked: What is your dream? My dream is to eat a vegetarian diet with some fish and become physically active again. So, what is your plan of action? I started going to a FOOD ADDICTION ANONYMOUS 12 step program. I work the program and am building a support system with the people I have met there with similiar goals. What am I learning? I'm learning not to obsess on denying myself of sugar, candy, etc. and become aware to manage my emotional eating. Instead, I either write about what I'm feeling or call my soponsor. Yes, I have screwed-up here and there but I'm not bingeing or rollercoaster-riding anymore. i immediately get back on the horse.I'm being kinder to myself. I'm actually experiencing day-to-day success. YEAH!!! For me, I come to the realization that my sugar consumption has been a lifelong mistake and it will take me and others (there is power in numbers)to conquer it. I am learning about the reality of "taste aversion"-it is a key through this. My biggest downfall has always been the undercurrent of family and friends unsupportive, indifferent and down-right saboteurs of my dream. Oh well! That's when I call or visit my new friends.I encourage you to reach out, talk to people who are like you, do a 12 step program and educate yourself. More importanatly,I encourage you to creatively dream up what you want to experience. Replace the sugar with new cologne or new music. Go on a vacation or healthy retreat. Buy yourself rollerskates. You are giving up such a big thing, sugar. You need to replace it with fun, new people, places and new music. It does get easier.
Peace and Joy in Your Life,
Jude
