Re: Depression and Hypoglycemia
Hello jurplesman:
This is a great post. I am in total agreement with you that nutrition is a major cause of depression. I have a daughter, 19yrs, who did very well in her high school and was rejected from all Ivy League colleges, and some of her classmates with lower grades were accepted in Yale and Harvard. She took it badly and kept it all to herself. She finally got admission to Duke University, which is great but she never let go of the jolt that was given to her. After settling in her dorm she obviously did not eat well, stayed up late at nights and basically did not care for herself. She came home with huge depression. She is going thru' therapy and medication regimen. She took Klonozepam (benzo) and Lexapro. She stopped taking Klonozepam because she realized that she had huge side effects from it. I was also fortunate to have someone here from curezone share her experience and shared a lot of articles and stories, which I shared with my daughter. She looks and behaves fine, but still has lot of anger and is not ready to let go of the meds. Sadly it has become a culture among the college kids that to be depressed is cool and you have to take drugs. Since my daughter's episode there were four other cases we heard of from same university. Two of then are her close friends.
I do not know how to make her think that proper nutrition and exercise will help her get back to normal. She just refuses to do any of those things. She lives on junk food like ice cream, cookies, choacolates, bagles and cheetoz. Luckily my wife cooks for her every night and feed her some nutritious food. But during day time she is on her own she does what she likes.
How can I help her?
Thank you.
