Update on Mirena removal and PCOS/Diabetes diagnosis

So I saw the Endocronologist yesterday. I told her that my gyno had diagnosed me with PCOS and diabetes even though I seemed to just have these problems within the last year while on Mirena. She agreed with me that Mirena DOES cause testosterone levels to spike, Mirena DOES cause periods to stop and Mirena DOES cause insulin resistance. I was so thrilled to find a doctor who was ACTUALLY listening to me!!! She was so nice. Basically, after looking at my blood tests from three weeks ago and looking at them now, my blood Sugar levels have gone from a diabetic level to a PRE-diabetic-to-normal level. She wants me to come back again in three months to check my hormones and glucose again, as a comparison. She is positive that the levels will go back down into a normal range with healthy eating and excercise, and of course, not having that damn thing polluting my body (my words, not hers, lol).

So anyway, I went to my PCP this morning. She took a look at my original blood work from three weeks ago and noticed that my insulin levels were fine, but my blood Sugar was really high (196) after they gave me the glucose drink. She said that it acutally shows that I have INSULIN RESISTANCE, not diabetes, which means that I can get my body back to normal with diet and excercise. I told her about the mirena and how I've been feeling lousy up until two weeks ago and she said it's very likely that the IUD was causing these symptoms. She took some blood and will let me know how it looks at this point. I am going to follow up with her after I get more blood work done in three months.

Also, since I saw her about two months ago for my migraines, she asked how I was doing with the medication she prescribed, (Topomax). I explained that it made me very dizzy and I couldn't take it everyday while trying to work, but since the IUD was removed, I've had hardly any headaches, whereas I was having them about every single day pre-removal.

I am just thrilled that my levels are going back down into almost a normal range. It was pretty scary there for a minute, thinking I had diabetes at 27. I will still follow the diet, as I am already starting to lose weight and inches. My jeans are litterally falling off of me. I can pull them off without unbuttoning them. I just want to get myself into a healthy weight, before I had my son, which was about 145. My goal is to get to 160 at least. That's another 40 lbs to lose.

I am so glad I found this site. It has helped me to get the information I needed to figure this all out.
