Re: Minor vent -- got blasted for sharing "potentially dangerous information" regarding iodine
"Working in the Medical field I personally find that these types of posts are dangerous."
You are entitled to your opinion.
"I am not disagreeing that there could be possible good to taking Idoine supplements. However there are many people that it could do harm too b.c they will read something like this and think ohh let me order some of this it can't hurt me and in the end it could."
The same can be said for any prescription medication.
The American Association of Poison Control Centers has posted their annual report for 2005, the last year reported on their website
http://www.aapcc.org
shows again that dietary supplements are very safe. The total number of deaths loosely associated with dietary supplements was 27.
The Journal of the American Medical Association of April 15,1998;295(5):1200-1205 reported that there were 106,000 deaths attributable to prescription drugs. These were not overdoses or medical errors, giving the wrong drug to the wrong patient, but drugs properly prescribed and taken as directed. Drugs have not gotten any safer. In the April 12,2003 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine,2003;348:1556-64, researchers from Harvard related hospitals and the Harvard School of Public Health, performed a prospective study of outpatients who received at least 1 prescription drug. Of 661 patients replying to the follow up survey (55% of the sample), 25% had adverse drug reactions. Of these 13% were considered serious !!!
"How dangerous it could be if someone googled this and saw this post and then followed your links all to websites that sell something and then just bought bought and pooped the pills without ever consulting a doctor? Yes people are that stupid we see them every day in our Endocrine clinic." well I saw a "study" on the web that said etc etc etc. I would love to see some real FDA approved reseach studies that support this if it really was the cure all then it they would be out there."
People can google a lot of things and follow the links and eat things which are dangerous. For example, some might conclude thatgoogling "Krispy Kreme" donuts, or "hamburgers" could lead them to eat more of these foods, which some believe may lead to type II diabetes, as this article seems to imply:

In all cases, the decision to eat hamburgers, french fries, donuts, iodine, or pickling lime is up to the individual, making an informed decision. Only the enemies of free speech would argue against allowing people to learn more, or share their opinions. Those arguing against free speech necessarily support having a supposedly all-wise and knowing entity DICTATE their prerogatives. History has repeatedly shown that such a policy always ends in misery and shame.
