Nice ideas those, I'd also love the society to concentrate on more real things, such as devoting days to celebrate and protect the environment, and cultural diversity in the world, and so on.

But, we can't deny there is a long long history of religion in our roots, and the majority of people in the US are Christian (I wouldn't swear on this though, I'm not a local), so I think it's equally fair enough for us atheists not to keep complaining and mocking every single Christian holyday. It's their heritage, and ours too.

While I do very often feel like religion is forcefully shoved down our throats, especially on religious holidays, I rather concentrate on the positives than make more people hate us non-believers as complainers and narrow-minded people! On Xmas (that's how I spell it, on purpose) I'm excited about prezzies and Santa, On Easter about Easter Bunny and choccy eggs. And so forth. There are already traditions in place that serve our purpose, and although might not be exactly how we feel about things they are still fun, and celebrating in these alternative ways should make us feel like we have an option for our kids, too.
