Re: Dad is home!

It's funny how the docs just assume things about patients without really evaluating them, or just simply asking the patient how they are doing.  Some doctor at the hospital tried to send dad home with a wheelchair, walker, shower chair and a bunch of other stuff.  (He had just taken a walk around the nursing unit without any help.  Getting up by himself to use the bathroom.  Totally self care.)  We had a huge laugh when he accused the doc into trying to turn him into an invalid.  She said she didn't realize he was doing so well,  she was really embarassed.  If she would have only asked him how he was doing, she could have avoided that whole situation.  Perhaps she learned something- to slow down and listen.  Next time the wrong assumption that is made may be a little more serious than sending a pt home with equipment that is not needed.
