Ok to massage a cut to reduce scar tissue?

My 4yo cut his chin 9 days ago. It was pretty deep and required three stitches. I took the stitches out on day 4 and did some things, (CS, coconut oil, Vit. E, cayenne), that were suggested to reduce scarring.

Well, three days after removing the stitches the cut opened in the center and bled pretty much for a week old cut. I think the bandaid I put on his chin to hold the Vit E in and to keep the cut from rubbing open during his sleep, was too tight and loosened the cut.

Tonight I put some more Vit E on it and noticed that the cut is hard underneath. Should I massage the cut to break up the scar tissue or leave it alone.

What about caster oil?

Thanks.
