It is quite possible that not only are pesticides used on some spices, there is another possible contamination. They may be picked by migrant workers who do not frequently wash their hands during the day. One of the same problems that exist with vegetable producers and one of the main causes of E. coli outbreaks, etc.

Unless something is "certified" organically grown, pesticides may be used.
