opiate religionism

Some real poetic stuff came ut of a discussion about an athiest with an opiate addiction and religious people trying to help him.

The religious ones say that their faith is "a gift" , and so the addict asked if his addiction was also, similiarly, a gift. The religious ones got angry at that, feeling they are being teased about 'the gift'.

In retort, the religious ones said:
"if Religion is the opiate of the masses, perhaps opiate are the religion of the asses".

Good stuff! Not that i would agree tho.
It seems that religious ones are most likely to repeat the tirades of the War on Drugs when dealing with addictions. That fits the religious profile of "accepting authority" without doing the thinking themselves. Addicts tend to be on the oppoiste end of the brainwashing/accepting authority scales.

Where I really lose the arguments is when they point out that addicts are addicts BECAUSE they do not believe in god. I cannot argue with that, can I? Not that it is right, just that there is no way to argue it. Oh ya, other than the fact that MOST addicts are believers.... which messes it all up eh?

Bye for now, confused yet>?
Me too
