Re: Advice needed for mites.

I haven't treated anyone yet, doing a little more research on getting the Ivomec. The cheapest is the paste but I think is has other chemicals in it where the injectable (which will be given orally or topically) I think is pure ivomec. I'm not sure, so I wanted to be sure on what I buy first. I know a lot of small animal owners have used both.

Braggs Organic Apple Cider Vinegar has always been a part of my dog's and cats' diets, so it hasn't made a difference. The one thing I did do with the ACV that seemed to work was mixing a lot of it with a little water and drenching my dog in it. BUT I had to keep him soaked because when it dries, anotehr would jump on him and he'd scratch again. It's a week later since I did that and he still reeks of vinegar so the smell doesn't even repell the mites. I put undilluted ACV on a cotten ball and wiped around my cats' necks and ears with it. They scratched as soon as I put it on. I'm assuming the mites didnt like it and started crawling around trying to get away and irritated them. But same with the dog, as soon as they dried the new ones were back on them.

I know I should treat everyone at once. I'm going to try one other kind of herbal skin thing on my dog to see if that makes a difference first and then treat everyone at once. I have to wait for the stuff to come anyway. I think I might try the gerbils on the Ivermectin for like 1-2 weeks before doing the others because I keep reading how mites are supposed to be species specific. So the best thing would be if the ivermectin kills them as they bite the gerbils. Then the ones crawling on me and the dog/cats will die anyway when they go back to the gerbils. I'll probably just have the vet look at the mites and tell me what the hell kind they are. I was going to do that today but couldn't get any.
