Re: cushing's disease/diabetes/blindness

Hi Pecosbillies - Have you come across the situation in your experiences where animals go blind within a weekend?

My mum's little dog of 12 has had Cushings for many years, and was only correctly diagnosed by a vet last year (I don't think our regular vet had ever even heard of it!). We decided not to go through with the procedure. But, the weirdest thing happened - she started to get better! We have no idea why, the only change we made afterwards was giving her fresh meat and vegies rather than tinned.

Anyway, that was three months ago. She has been a happy little dog since then. Then on the weekend just gone she went from being perfectly OK to completely blind. 6 months ago there was no sign of cataracts.

The vet did a diabetes test and this was positive (we suspected as she drinks and wees a lot).

Any thoughts on why so sudden?

Cheers,
Christie C
