Re: Duality
>>Could you not, with your reasoning also say that, cold is the absence of heat, dark is the absence of light, and evil is the absence of good?<<
According to the laws of Physics…what we consider cold is in fact the absence of heat. So to have a scale with cold on one end that gradually gets warmer is actually the addition of heat to the scale. As for darkness...it does not exist. Darkness is the absence of light. Darkness cannot be measured or studied as light can. When the sun (light) rises in the morning it dispels the darkness, and when it sets in the evening, the darkness returns. It is not the darkness that determines the day from the night, but rather the light that determines it.
>>What would "good" be without having something to compare itself against? Where would the varying levels of light, etc come from if there was only a constant representation of light?<<
The way I see it is that God is LOVE and God is GOODNESS, and God is LIGHT etc. Perfect love and goodness and light - He is the plumb line by which we compare ourselves and as we surrender ourselves to Him and allow our nature to conform to His, then we become more like Him. So…fear, darkness, evil etc. are gradually overcome by His love, light and goodness. Which makes fear, darkness, evil all the absence of God.
>>The dual nature of our universe and moreover, consiousness, comes about by having nothing and everything (alpha and omega) together, with our free will riding between like a cursor in the middle of a line of absolute choices.<<
Alpha and Omega - Beginning and End - one of the ways that Jesus describes Himself. Yes...we have a choice. To allow His light, love, goodness into our lives, or to resist it.
