Thanks for your poem! I'd like to
return your friendly gesture with
a poem I wrote more than 40 years
ago. It's posted on the Poetry
forum, and is entitled, "Childhood
Recaptured." I hope the young girl
inside you enjoys it.
Here's the Grace I say before I
"You are my food. May the best of
you become the best of me."
It's a simple blend of affirmation
and prayer. You're thanking your
food for giving up its life, its
form, to become part of you. And
you're instructing your body to
take only the very best of this
food for nutritional purposes.
It's the difference, Suzie, from
looking on your food as a "Thou,"
instead of an "it." I believe in
treating all objects with respect.
The mystics tell us that everything
with form has a kind of congealed
consciousness, and that it's only
our primitive senses that keep us
from knowing that.
Try this simple Grace a time or two.
If it seems silly, forget it. If not, if it resonates with you, then
go from there.
I hope you're enjoying a lovely day
on the far side of the Western Ocean.
