I am told that malic acid + phosphoric acid does wonders to soften gall stones. The orthophosphoric Liver Flush (see Liver Flush recipes -- I forget exactly what it's called) describes a method to use both of these components to soften gall stones. Malic acid is said to be in freshly juiced apples.

I don't know if it works. I've never tried it.
