That sounds very yum! Like a very promising solution.
I do buy the whole groats, it would be interesting to try them with a rice cooker, never have, don't know whether the rice cooker would even like it.
In cold weather I soak the groats in water overnight on a cold windowsill (don't cover tightly! I once blew up a jar of soaking beans, they went all over the ceiling thank God the container was plastic). Then drain and simmer with a pinch of salt. They are really nice, the grains have a succulent texture.
Don't let them boil over! Oats love to foam up and jump over the pan.
