Mom,
It is easier if the thing is down in the toilet....that way you just sit down on the seat and go. It catches all.....then while the collander is setting in the bottom of the toilet, in the water, I stir it with chop sticks and flush....stir again and flush. Keep doing this until all that is left in the collander are stones. *LOL* it gets funnier as it goes along doesnt it!? I point the short handle of the collander toward the front of the toilet, so nothing gets on the handle!
