as much s i agree with the sentiment of this "joke", let's revise a few things:
Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6am. don't get me wrong - i agree that if things were manufactured in the united states, it might create jobs, but you won't see many americans work for 25 cents an hour assembling gadgets. because that's how much these slave laborers get paid, if any at all (in china, prisoners make toys and other things for FREE or they're beaten). wheelslip, you're the financial wizard of the bunch - how much would a simple alarm clock, assembled in the good old u.s. of a cost, did the manufacturer pay minimum wage to the person assembling it? my guesstimate is around $200. any takers? yeah, it's easy to point out what the problem is, but what the heck is the solution? for starters, american manufacturers who dole out their work to countries with no minimum wage guidelines ought to be severely fined, to the point it wouldn't be worth it to them. but who the hell is going to implement this? certainly not the politician who was accepting campaign funds from those very manufacturers. i can't get around it - i keep coming back to the same kind of argument i had with wheelslip about illegal immigrants picking our oranges - unless we're willing to accept a 2000% price jacking of goods to cover the wages of american workers, it just 'ain't ever gonna' happen :(
