Re: agreed (eom)
rudenski - if you look back a few posts, i didn't say "christianlity is the opiate of the masses" - RELIGION is. you're right, many people believe that if they do wrong, they'll go to hell. however, the catholic church says that you can go to confession; jesus died for yor sins, so as long as you're "really sorry", you'll be ok. most religions have these "clauses", so you're pretty much free to sin alon, as long as you're "reeeeeaaly sorry". i know of many gnostics, or "truth-seekers", who do not believe in organized religion. they believe in the freedon to believe in whatever you want, and that includes NOT believing in anything. i do think you're wrong when you assume that religious people will do right just out of fear of going to hell. look at history - the crusades, the spanish inquisition, the witch hunts (which in europe alone killed over 6 MILLION women!!!). most of the wars have their source in religion. remember 9/11? who can forget? radical muslims killed thousands in the name of god. it's all the same god, whatever we choose to call him/her - jahveh, jehova, allah, God. it's been said "money is the root of all evil"; i believe religion is. too many fanatics become easily manipulated. how is that good? bush himself uses religion to further his own agenda. he's been quoted as saying that god himself chose him to lead this country. into what, i ask? unemployment? famine? war? devastation? i have yet to see one good thing come out of that man's office. don't get me wrong, i'm not blaming god. religion is only as good as it's author, which is MAN!
