I am not sure others would categorize it as such, but I think pilates is very similar to strength training. Usually, strength training (when done with weights) is doing exercises with larger weights with fewer reps (typically less than 8) per set. Another form is to use smaller weights and extremely slow, measured movements. This form actually resembles pilates.
