You are quite right. Not all hospital experiences are bad ones. But it is definitely wise nowadays to have a doula or a firm written birth plan in place so the hospital staff know exactly what you expect from them and your birth.
It is also wise to be sure that you have your baby with you at all times. Otherwise you also run the risk of the baby being fed, passed through many nurses due to their shift changes. This just protects your baby from germs and keeps him/her with mamma at all times. The first few days are extremely important for mamma and babe to bond and marvel at the experience.
Also beware of nurses that suffer from hypochondria...
